All owners of residential rental properties are required by the City of London to obtain a rental license that is renewable each year at a cost of $25. There is a fine for up to $25,000 for persons not complying with this by-law. The by-law was effective on March 1st 2010.
How will this impact owners of student rental properties?
1.Landlords will need to do the paperwork once a year and pay the $25 fee
2.Landlords with properties with more than 5 bedrooms will have to prove that the additional bedrooms were built before June 2006, when the by-law was passed restricting residential homes to a maximum of 5 bedrooms
3.Properties will be inspected by the Fire Department to make sure they comply with the Ontario Fire Code.
4.Properties may be inspected by building inspectors to ensure the properties comply with the current City of London property standards.
